Romonet gains CoC Endorser status

Romonet directors (Liam Newcombe in particular) have worked tirelessly on promoting the code of conduct on data centres since first getting involved with it via the BCS Data Centre Specialist Group over two years ago.

Newcombe put in many voluntary hours (and continues to do so) negotiating between all the major IT vendors of the world around the code's best practice guide, the group that he now chairs on behalf of the EU commission.

Romonet have worked over the last nine months to develop a qualification for the BCS Data Centre Specialist Group in understanding and applying the code. Later Romonet partnered with CNet training to develop and launch the first formal training course in applying the best practices of the code within a data centre.

While Romonet has had a direct involvement from early on it was decided to hold back the application for Endorser status until the training course was launched and could be pointed to as a material contribution from Romonet rather than any of its directors.

Romonet are proud to support the EU's work in this area and continue to support and endorse the code to our clients and within the wider industry.

Our thinking

  • There seems to be an endless comparison of the size of different data centres’ PUE. Whilst on the one hand this is encouraging as it demonstrates that the industry is facing up to the energy cost or environmental issues facing data centres, it is also a little depressing as the numbers are, in many cases pretty meaningless and not comparable. Why is this so, and what might we be able to do about it?
