Simulator in silicon valley
The data centre simulator developed by Romonet made its debut appearance in the United States at a recent Data Center Dynamics industry event in San Francisco.
Jointly funded by the Carbon Trust, Romonet and BCS the open source version of the simulator and web interface was demonstrated to a audience of over five hundred people keen on finding our how the Europeans were dealing with the drive to a low-carbon economy.
Romonet MD, Zahl Limbuwala, presented on behalf of the BCS data centre specialist group focusing on the impact of CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) to the data centre and ICT industry in the UK.
The Americans have recently seen a similar bill to the UK's Climate Change Act 2008 pass through the House of Representatives and is now tabled to be reviewed by the Senate. This could lead to similar legislation being implemented targeting businesses and organisations with a legally binding carbon reduction requirement.
Zahl explained how tools such as the data centre cost and energy simulator were going to become "de rigeur" in the near future, and to be successful in the new low-carbon economy early adoption of such technology was essential.
